Nigerian spy agency details leaked

he Associated Press has learned that personnel records of former and current members of Nigeria's top domestic spy agency, including home addresses and names of immediate family members, were leaked onto the internet.

The data about more than 60 employees of Nigeria's State Security Service remained easily accessible on the internet for days. It also had details about the agency's director-general, including his mobile phone number, bank account details and contact information for his son.

The material, posted by someone who claimed to be a member of a radical Islamist sect, has since been deleted from the comment section of a website. However, cached versions of the material remain on the internet.

Monitoring domestic dissent

A State Security Service spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Thursday.

The State Security Service, created in 1986 by then-military ruler General Ibrahim Babangida, monitors domestic dissent in the oil-rich nation of more than 160 million people.

 Though geared toward stopping terrorism and destabilising coups, the agency routinely faces criticism for targeting government critics.

The information leak came in two postings earlier this month on a website that provides rewritten news on Nigeria. The first posting threatened to kill agents of the State Security Service on behalf of Boko Haram, a radical Islamist sect responsible for more than 660 killings this year alone in Nigeria.

The second posting simply offered a block of text containing biographical and other details about the agents.

Though the comments have been removed, the AP is not identifying the website involved as cached versions of the comments remain online and intelligence service agents have been killed by Boko Haram members in the past.

Boko Haram ties

Some of those contacted suggested that the list appeared to come from the agency's pension department, as it mostly included retirees and listed bank account information for nearly all those named.

It is unclear if the person who posted the information online really does have ties to Boko Haram, which has targeted security officials in the past.

Violence has been centred mostly in the country's Muslim north. One retired agent who spoke to AP said he was grateful he lives in the largely Christian south, away from the sect's attacks.

"It's worrying that they have access to that," the agent said. "Those living in Abuja (and the north) are the ones who should living in fear."

When the Hensel twins were born on March 7, 1990, in Minnesota in the United States, doctors warned their parents Patty, a registered nurse, and Mike, a carpenter and landscaper, that they were unlikely to survive the night.
But that prediction was to prove wildy wrong.
When growing up, they, like many twins, had very different personalities and tastes.
Abigail, the feisty, stubborn one, liked orange juice for breakfast, while Brittany, the joker of the family, would only touch milk.

They also stunned doctors with their astonishing co-ordination while playing the piano, with Abigail taking the right-hand parts and Brittany the left.
They enjoyed sports such as bowling, volleyball, cycling, softball and swimming.
And on their 16th birthday they passed their driving test, a mind-boggling feat of teamwork with each twin using one arm to control the steering wheel.
Speaking at the time, their mother Patty, a registered nurse, conceded that could have been a problem.
'I don't know what would happen if they got pulled over for speeding. Would they each get a ticket or just Abby because it's her foot on the accelerator?'

Young adults: The girls are seen prepping for their 22nd birthday party

The Daily Mail first introduced the Hensel twins 16 years ago, when they were six years old, and now their latest escapades show the dramatic progress they have made into early adulthood.

The Hensels are believed to be one of only a few sets of dicephalus twins in history to survive infancy, and when they turned 16, they allowed the cameras into their fiercely guarded private world to share this milestone in their lives.
Speaking back then, Brittany said: 'Believe me, we are totally different people.'
It has not been unknown, however, for the twins to go out in a specially made top with two different necklines - to reflect their unique tastes - and leggings with each leg a contrasting colour and a different shoe on each foot.
Just one set of twins in every 40,000 is born connected in some way to each other and only 1 per cent of those survive beyond the first year.

HENSEL GIRLS ARE RAREST FORM OF CONJOINED TWINS

The Hensel girls are the rarest form of conjoined twins, the result of a single fertilised egg which failed to separate properly in the womb.

They have two spines (which join at the pelvis), two hearts, two oesophagi, two stomachs, three kidneys, two gall bladders, four lungs (two of which are joined), one liver, one ribcage, a shared circulatory system and partially shared nervous systems. 

From the waist down, all organs, including the intestine, bladder and reproductive organs, are shared.

While they were born with three arms, one was removed surgically.

Although Brittany - the left twin - can't feel anything on the right side of the body and Abigail - the right twin - can't feel anything on her left, instinctively their limbs move as if co-ordinated by one person, even when typing e-mails on the computer.

It is rare for twins conjoined the way that Abby and Brittany are to survive into adulthood, but despite this they are in good health, without heart defects or organ failure.

Yet Patty, 46 and Mike, 47, never once considered having the twins separated, through fear that one or both might die or be left with such severe disabilities their quality of life would be compromised and could no longer enjoy all the activities they love.
They would each have just one arm and one leg and be confined to a wheelchair.
Patty had no idea she was carrying twins until the birth at the local hospital where she worked
'The paediatrician said my babies were together but they had two heads,' she recalled in 2006. 'It was blunt, but completely accurate.
'From the first time we saw them, we thought they were beautiful.
'I kissed Abigail and then Brittany and gave them a hug. It's like that every time I pick them up from school, two kisses and one hug for the most beautiful children in the world.'
Both Mike and Patty's families have lived in a small midwestern farming community of 300 people for generations and it is here where they have brought up the twins and younger brother Dakota, 20, and sister Morgan, 18, away from the media spotlight.
Although Brittany is more susceptible to colds and has twice suffered pneumonia, the twins have remained in good health despite a series of operations.
In infancy, a third undeveloped arm was removed from their chest and aged 12 they underwent surgery to correct scoliosis - curvature of the spine - and expand their chest cavity to prevent future breathing difficulties.
They attended a private church school and are popular with their friends, who treat them no differently from anyone else. Only when the family ventures outside this close-knit community does the curiosity of strangers have the potential to wound.
Once Patty heard a child at a swimming pool ask his mother if she had seen the little girl with two heads. 'We have talked about that with Abigail and Brittany,' she said.
'When children ask the girls if they have two heads, they say they don't but that each has their own head. That's what we have encouraged them to do, to develop their own individuality as much as possible.'
That has meant buying two seats every time they go to the cinema - even though only one will be used - separate meals and two different birthday cakes with candles each year. If one of the twins misbehaves, Patty and Mike are careful to scold the individual responsible - even if the other has been dragged unavoidably into the misdeed.
Yet, while the twins have developed their own tastes in food, drink, clothes and separate personalities, their body works as one - although they have different urges to eat and sleep.
When they eat, they have separate plates. One of them holds the fork and the other the knife to cut the food, and then take turns to put the meal in each other's mouth.

What is perhaps most touching about Abigail and Brittany, however, is their ability to get on - despite their different personalities. They seldom argue, despite Abigail always wanting to be the leader and - according to their mother - liking 'to rule the whole house'.
One twin will scratch an itch the other cannot reach or hold her hand still so the other can count during a maths lesson and when Brittany was ill with pneumonia and couldn't keep the medicine down, Abigail volunteered to take it in the hope of making her twin better.
Only once have the twins talked about separation - in childhood - when Abigail became bored and restless after Brittany fell ill with pneumonia and was confined to bed.
She started to suggest being separated from her sister, but when Brittany began to cry Abigail reassured her that everything was fine and that they'd never be parted.
Despite their optimism, devotion to each other and apparent happiness, what of the inevitable challenges they will face in life? It is not clear if either has yet, but will they fall in love and with whom?
Three years ago, unconfirmed reports claimed Brittany was engaged, but no details were given about the fiance.
What if one of the twins detests the boy the other one likes? Will they have children - a choice they must both make in tandem because they share one reproductive system?
There is no medical reason why they shouldn't be able to have children and they have in the past said they would like to start a family.
Their father Mike certainly believes the girls will at the very least get married one day.

7 Men Arrested for Killing a 7Year-old girl in Ebonyi State

 

Officers of the Ebonyi State Police Command, on Tuesday, announced the arrest of seven suspects in connection with the murder of a 7-year-old girl, Ukamaka Ogboji.

The victim was allegedly killed for ritual purposes on Sunday at Agubia in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state. The suspects had earlier kidnapped Ogboji for monetary gains, and then dismembered her body parts before dumping same in a cassava farm.

 

The State Police Command spokesperson, Sylvester Igbo, while confirming the arrest of the suspects, commended the community youth organisation known as Ebonyi Youth Assembly for their assistance towards the arrest of the suspects.

Igbo revealed that two of the suspects had already confessed to the crime, adding that the police had commenced full investigation to ascertain the motive behind the brutal killing of the deceased.
“What we have observed at the scene made us to attribute the killing to ritual killing and not kidnapping, because the corpse of the deceased was without two legs, hands and eyes,” he said.

“From the act, it is a ritual killing. Through police investigation, we have been able to arrest seven suspects, among whom two have confessed to the crime. One of them confessed that his mother was the spiritual mother of the girl when she was baptised.”

20 Years Old Girl Narrates How She Lured Kidnapped Politician With Sex

At the headquarters of the Delta State Command of the State Security Services (SSS) in Asaba, she could pass for an innocent lady. But this soft-spoken lady has a way of getting men old enough to be her father, especially randy politicians, to willingly eat poison from her palms. Welcome to the world of 20-year-old Philomena Ogbovoh, arrested with two others for allegedly kidnapping a politician.

A native of Kwale in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state, she had left her land of birth years ago in search of greener pastures in Ozoro, in Isoko North Local Government Area of the state, where she worked as an auxiliary nurse in a private clinic. As at the time of filing this report, Phil, as she is fondly called, and her boyfriend, Daniel Ubah (24), as well as another accomplice, Kingsley Otuya (25), were cooling their heels behind bars at the SSS head office and would soon face prosecution.

Phil allegedly used her God-given ‘treasure’ to lure a political bigwig (names withheld) of one of the vibrant political parties in the state, into abduction by her boyfriend and his two partners-in-crime, including one Jersey currently at large. The failed kidnap was said to be Jersey’s idea.

It was gathered that Phil and Daniel started their relationship in Kwale where Daniel was a contract security personnel in an oil firm and at different times, the lovebirds left Kwale ostensibly in search of better life.

However, in March, this year, they ran into each other at Ozoro and re-ignited the affair. Their re-union soon spelt doom for the politician who is eyeing an elective position in the state but said to be tight-fisted. Apparently overwhelmed by Phil’s beauty, the politician, who is old enough to be Phil’s father, made amorous advances toward her. Phil said that moved by the irritating pressures from the ‘sugar daddy’, she decided to plunge him into an image crisis through blackmail, an idea she sold to her boyfriend, Daniel.

She said: “I was in my house and the man had been pestering me for sex. I begged him not to do it because he has a wife and a girlfriend whom he told me about. He kept on disturbing me until Daniel came to my house one day and I told him about the harassment.

“I told Daniel that I didn’t want anything to do with the man and I initially planned that he should take photographs of the man, so that I could extort money from him by threatening to expose his sexual escapades.”

13 Chinese ladies Arrested for Prostitution

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Friday in Abuja paraded 13 Chinese nationals who were arrested on suspicion of engaging in prostitution in the country. NIS spokesman, Joachim Olumba, said the suspects were apprehended in Lagos following a tip off from an informant. He said the service received a report on the activities of some Chinese nationals who connived with some Nigerians to traffic teenage girls into the country under the pretext of offering them jobs in factories. A distress call from one of the victims prompted the immigration service to carry out a raid on some operational locations of some of the syndicates. “Having gathered intelligence information, operatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service swooped on the operational locations of the syndicates at No. 18, 24 and 26B Emena Crescent, Ikeja, Lagos,” he said, “During the operations a total number of 13 Chinese nationals made up of 11 females and two males were arrested.” He said preliminary investigation confirmed that most of the women were sponsored into the country by some “criminal human traffickers who are currently at large”. Olumba, however, expressed the regret that the informant who made the distress call that led to the investigation and arrest of the suspects, had yet to be rescued because she did not give a clear description of her location in Lagos. “It is unfortunate that we have not been able to rescue the lady who called us, because she only provided the number of the house where she is being held, without the name of the street. We want to use this opportunity to solicit for information from the public that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of this ignoble business and rescue of our informant,” Olumba said. In her statement, the NIS Arresting Officer, Chinwe Obi, said the Chinese Embassy in Abuja was in touch with the suspects, and that arrangements were being made to ease them out of the country. One of the victims, Lu Yui Suan, however, denied allegations that they were arrested for prostitution. Lu Yui, who spoke through an interpreter, said she came into the country in June, on the invitation of a friend. Daily Times

Flavour faces legal battle over Alleged Copyright Infringement

The duo of Wutah Kobby and Wutah PV that make up the now defunct group Wutah, may be preparing for a legal showdown with Nigerian high-life crooner, Flavour N’abania over alleged infringement on rights to intellectual property.

Management of the duo, made up of Wutah Kobby and Wutah PV, say that they were not pleased with the ‘Kwarikwa’ song recently released by Flavour, where he featured Fali Ipupa.

The duo have also accused Flavour of ‘stealing’ the chorus, rhythm, rhyme and the opening saxophone beat used in their song, Kotosa, with total disregard for their right as the legitimate owners of the song.

Kaduna: Bishop laments 60% drop in offering and tithe

 

Kaduna Diocese of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has said that its worshippers' attendance has dropped below 70 per cent.

Most Rev. Josiah Fearon, the Diocesan Bishop stated this during the church's 19th Synod in Kaduna, were he attributed the poor attendance of faithful to the current national security challenge.

Fearon lamented that the drop in church at tendance has also contributed to a drop in the
church's earnings in tithe and offering and other developmental projects.
The said the reason for the decrease is attendance is as a result of the boko haram bombing.....i mean, no one wants to be bombed to death. Therefore, he has urged the Federal Government to help the northern state governments to implement the recommendations of the Sheikh Ahmed Lemu Panel aimed at restoring peace. The government should please do something about this ooo....we cannot continue to lose our fellow Nigerians to this so called boko haram....

Security fear: Hillary Clinton flees Nigeria, abandons scheduled meetings

Irrespective of the heightening of security in Abuja, the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, shelved many of the activities scheduled for her and left Nigeria for Ghana in hurry.
She later held a meeting with the new Ghanaian President, Mr. John Mahama, at his residence in Accra, as she was billed to participate in the state funeral for the late President John Attah Mill.
Clinton, on the last lap of her nine-nation African tour, departed the country shortly after a closed-door meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Security Council, but she shelved scheduled meeting, with civil society groups and anti-corruption campaigners billed for the US Ambassador’s residence in Abuja.
The US Secretary of State also shelved the traditional ‘Meet and Greet’ with US Embassy staff.
At the closed-door session with members of the National Security Council were the Minister of State, Defence, Chief Olusola Obada; National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.); Chief of Defence Staff, Air-Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika; and the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Muhammed Abubakar.
The Federal Government had deployed security agents in many parts of the Federal Capital City, including the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and Umaru Yar’Adua Way, which were manned by soldiers and policemen as part of the security measures for Clinton’s visit.
Security agents were also at the Federal Secretariat and the Central Business District.
Also, roads leading to the Presidential Villa and the Federal Secretariat and the Central Business District were manned by armed security agents.
Foreign media reports on Thursday however indicated that Clinton would not pass the night in Nigeria because of security fears.
“The security situation in Nigeria has deteriorated to the point where the movement of US Embassy workers is often restricted. Clinton will spend only five hours on the ground and will not spend the night in Abuja, where the hotel traditionally used by visiting dignitaries has been the target of terrorist threats,” the Associated Press reported on Thursday.
Before she left the country, however, the US Secretary of State had encouraged Jonathan to take tough decisions necessary to change the fortunes of the country and that the US would support him.
She told the President, “We were also very supportive of anti-corruption reform efforts, more transparency in the work that you and your team are also championing because we really believe that the future for Nigeria is limitless but the most important task that you face, as you have said, is making sure that there are better opportunities for all Nigerians, South, East, West, every young boy and girl to have chance to fulfill his God-given potential.
“We want to work with you and we will be by your side as you make the reforms and take the tough decisions that are necessary.”
Jonathan had earlier paid tribute to the US President Barak Obama and Clinton for their support for Nigeria. He recalled that she had used her position as US Secretary of State to deepen the relationship between the two countries.
He said, “Within this period of being Secretary of State, she has raised the relationship between Nigeria and America to a very high level that we have never reached for quite some time by personally chairing the Bi-national and we have discussed various things – security, economy and so on and so forth. She has been very supportive.
“And of course, the President of America, President Obama administration is also quite passionate about Africa and Nigeria. He has always been very supportive of us for the past five years. From the days I came in as Vice-President, especially that period as a nation when we faced a lot of challenges when the late President was very ill and we passed through turbulence period.
“The support they gave us was one of the supports that stabilized this country. And when we insisted we must conduct election that is free and fair and that is the only way we can stabilize democracy, they were very supportive.
“They gave us moral support, technical support to INEC and assisted us to make sure that we conducted elections that national and international observers declared as free and fair.
“So let me on behalf of government and good people of Nigeria really thank you and President Obama and the good people of America for this your support for Nigeria and Africa and all what you are doing to make sure that this part of the globe develop.”
Clinton who was decked in a pair of black trousers and red jacket arrived at the Presidential Villa at 3.50pm in company with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru; Nigerian Ambassador to US, Ambassador Ade Adefuye, and a battery of security details and foreign journalists.
She left the Presidential Villa at 6.15 pm and headed for the airport and on her way to Accra, Ghana.
President Barack Obama had been under pressure by some American legislators to classify the Islamic violent sect, Boko Haram, as a terrorist group, a campaign that had been resisted by diplomats arguing that the sect mainly focused on domestic violence.

Bloodshed looms as Bakassi declares Independence, hoists flag

After much tears and sorrow without any form of help or consolation, the indigenes of Bakassi land finally took their destiny in their own hands. They declared themselves independent of Nigeria. They went further by hoisting their official flag and launching a radio station.
They had cried for help from their dear country, wanted the Federal Government to take them back to their homeland in Bakassi, yet none came as at when due. It is now about a decade since the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that the oil-rich Bakassi did not belong to Nigeria but Cameroun.
The Bakassi Self-Determination Front (BSDF) is the rallying point for all this. It hoisted a blue, white and red flag with 11 stars on the blue colour.
This development is coming a week after the Ogoni declared their independence on August 2, 2012.
The Bakassi’s radio station started transmission on August 6 at noon and operates on 4.2MHz and 5.2MHz band. The station, otherwise known as “Dayspring”, is part of efforts by the group to ensure the liberation of Bakassi people as well as disseminate information on developments.
Already, the Camerounian soldiers have piled up arms in the peninsula ready for any action as the Bakassi group had issued a two-week ultimatum to its people still living within the ceded territory to vacate or be crushed in a cross-fire.
In his maiden broadcast, the Commander-General of the BSDF, Ekpe Ekpenyong Oku, said: “Please for the umpteenth time, we plead with our people to leave Abana now. The fight is going to be thickest and fiercest now that our brothers from the northern and eastern flanks have fully arrived. Bakassi we hail thee.”
Oku revealed that arrangements had been concluded with some international liberation groups to assist the Bakassi natives in the battle ahead.
The Bakassi militant leader did not disclose details of the international liberation group but noted: “Ours will be a classical story of the elephant and the ant. The elephant will soon be driven frantic with ants all over its enormous bulk. The elephant will be so harassed and will find no respite and will dash itself against a tree trunk.
“Throughout history, injured people have had to resort to arms in their self-defence where peaceful negotiations fail. Bakassi people are no exception. Our right to self-determination is imminent; some will die, but some will live to reap from our labour.”
The BSDF warned all travellers on the sea to stay away as “August 11 and 12, 2012 this week will be bloody and is not good to travel on the sea.
“No sea movement so that you don’t have cause to regret. There shall be no movement of boats from Ikang or Marina beach to Cameroun on these two days. Be warned.
“We call on men of goodwill, individuals, human rights organizations and the indigenous people of Bakassi to join hands in resisting and fighting the present international conspiracy.”
In the wake of the Green Tree Agreement, (GTA) in 2006, a group under the name ‘Bakassi Freedom Fighters’ had threatened to seek independence if Nigeria renounced sovereignty.
The group even went ahead to hoist the then Bakassi flag of the rising sun in Abana, the headquarters of Bakassi now in Cameroun.
But a few days to handing over Bakassi to Cameroun at the Government House in Calabar, Cross River State, the leader of the militant group, Tony Ene, died in a mysterious road accident along Calabar-Itu highway.
Now, tension is high in the peninsula as some Nigerians have started fleeing the area for safety as it is alleged that the village head of Ekoi, near Abana, Chief Okon Effiong Esu, is missing and there is the fear that he might have been killed by Cameroonian soldiers
