HOW TO BECOME A FASHION DESIGNER

HOW TO BECOME A FASHION DESIGNER
It’s no news that every youth in Nigeria today is a fashion designer (in their words). You steal a style from a magazine and reproduce it with the help of your tailor then you sell it to people with maybe your label on it and you automatically become a fashion designer. I’m sorry but it goes beyond that. And that makes you business Man/Woman not a fashion designer. If that’s what makes you a designer then everyone is a designer because at one point in our life, we have all stolen from a magazine or the internet to reproduce.
“Don’t recycle ideas, create new ones”
We all know that fashion evolves and revolves.  what was in style in the 60’s is back on the runway and seriously trending!. But the designers add a touch of modernity into the trend. They don’t just bring it back raw. They change fabrics, styles, add little details etc. .
Being a fashion designer goes beyond seeing, you have to be in touch with your feelings, let your environment and the people in it inspire you, let nature inspire you, so you know God is the greatest inspiration, so let him inspire you.  “Nature” play with colours, patterns, darts style lines etc.
You should also be able to put down your inspirations in black and white “Paper/Pencil” Be creative, be innovative, be a visionary, see the future, predict the future. Project runway once asked their competitors to create a design for the future and yeah, they had winner.
Creativity is very much in our DNA everyone has his/her creative talents. So some people were born fashion designers others weren’t if you know you were born with it improve in it. “Be devoted to perfection. But if you weren’t and you have the passion for it, go to a fashion University/ a fashion school. Learn to sew, learn to draw. That way you already have an idea what you want to do. No tailor would cheat you. You’d make beautiful garments because you already know not to put warden on clothes that needs stay or the difference between cowl neck and V neck etc. and if you own a fashion home, when there is a problem you would be able to tell where it’s from and tackle it. Instead of sacking your tailors continously. "Don’t be a fashion designer that can’t sew a button on a garment, be a designer that can sew a complete garment".
You can’t compare Diddy to Karl Lagerfeld neither can you compare Alexandra Wang to the kardashian sisters. Diddy, the kardashians and whichever celebrity have clothing lines, while Karl Lagerfeld, Alexandra Wang etc. are fashion designers.
All fashion designers have their clothing lines and not everyone that owns a clothing line can be called a fashion designer. To every business you want to go into, have proper knowledge on it before going into it; one of your workers leave you can fill up the space and work goes on.
